How to Draw Curly Male Hair – Let's get Started!
Step 1
For this first step in our guide on how to draw curly hair, we will be starting with the outline of the hair itself. To do this, we will be making a curved line that has lots of bumps in it.
These lines will be forming the sides and the top of the hair. You could also start by drawing a circular shape with a pencil where the face will be so that you have a reference for where the hair will go.
When you're happy with how it looks then you're ready to proceed to the next step!
Step 2 – Draw the face and finish off the hair outline
For this second step of your curly hair, we will be adding the face outline as well as completing the inner outline of the hair.
First, use a rounded line with a point for the chin at the bottom to create the bottom of the face.
Once you have this bottom part of the face drawn, you can then extend the bumpy line that you used for the tops and sides of the hair on the inner portion of the head.
That will finish off the outline, and in the next few steps we will be adding some details and extra touches.
Step 3 – Now, you can draw the ears and shoulders
We have the outline of the face and the head, and in this part of our guide on how to draw curly hair we will be adding the ears and shoulders.
The ears will be drawn as some oval shapes at the side of the head where the hair attaches to the face. Then, you can add some rounded lines within the ears to show their inner structure.
Once you have finished the ears, you can then draw some more rounded shapes underneath the chin. This will help to create the neck of the boy and also the collar of his shirt.
Finally for this step, carefully draw some straight lines from the neck and down to create the shoulders and sides of his chest.
Step 4 – Next, draw some of the face and arms of the boy
This curly hair drawing is already starting to take shape! For this part, you will be drawing the face and arms of the boy before moving on to the final details.
First, use some ovals for the eyes and then use smaller filled dots for the pupils. You can then use some simple lines to create eyebrows, a nose and the mouth of the boy.
Then, once you're happy with the face then you can draw the sleeves of his shirt with more straight lines. Finally, you can finish off by drawing his arms coming down from the sleeves.
Step 5 – Now, you can add some final details to the hair itself
This fifth step of our guide on how to draw curly hair will be all about adding the final details before you color it in.
These details will be mostly within the hair outline itself, and they will help to make the hair look nice and curly.
These details within the hair will be drawn with lots of small, curved lines that connect with one another.
Once you have added these details, you're pretty much ready for the next step! Before you move in, however, you can also add any details of your own that you may want.
You could change the expression on the boy's face for one idea, or you could add a cool design on his shirt. You could also make his hair outline bigger or smaller depending on your preferences.
These are just a few ideas that you could try, but there are many more that you could do as well! What can you think of to put your own spin on this picture?
Step 6 – Finish off your curly hair drawing with some color
Step 6 of this guide is the final one, and it's also one of the most fun! In our reference image, we used a few shades of brown for the hair while using a nice blue for the shirt.
These are the colors that we chose, but you should feel free to use any colors that you love! Hair can come in all manner of different styles and colors, so you could use anything you like to fill it in.
Once you know how you will color in your curly hair drawing you can also play around with your favorite art mediums and tools.
What colors and art supplies do you think you will use to bring this drawing to life with color?
