After you have your drawing for the Manga Boy Full Body, follow the step-by-step drawings below to add the school uniform also called a "Seifuku". The new lines in each step are shown in red, so you'll know exactly what to draw next. Take your time and draw at your own pace.
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. For every step, sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Start by drawing the shirt's collar directly below the boy's neck. The middle of the collar is similar to a wide letter X. The sides of the collar are made up of two curved lines. Don't make the collar too big. Wrap the sides of the shape around the neck. The bottom tips should overlap the collarbone a bit.
Step 2: On the sides of the boy's collar, draw a couple of long, sloping lines for the lapels on the coat. The tops of these shapes should be wide and the bottoms should be narrow and they should come to a point below the chest. The outer lines of the lapels should angle inward to create two pointy shapes on either side.
Step 3: At the top, in the middle of the boy's shirt collar, draw a small V-shaped line for the tie's knot. Below the knot, draw a couple of lines that slope outward a bit for the bottom part of the tie.
Step 4: Use the shape of the torso as a guide to draw the left side of the manga boy's coat. Follow the outer edge of the torso and place the line for the coat a bit farther to the left. Place the inner line of the coat near the belly button. The lower part of the coat should curve to the left along the side of the hip. Near the middle of the shape, on the left, draw a small rectangle for the coat's pocket.
Step 5: Draw the other side of the boy's coat the same way but reversed. Follow the path of the torso and draw the line for the outer edge of the coat a bit farther to the right. Curve the lower part of the coat to the right and near the middle, draw a small rectangle for the pocket.
Step 6: Follow the path of the boy's arm on the left to draw the coat's first sleeve. Keep the edge of the sleeve close to the sides of the arm. Make the section on the shoulder wide for the coat's pad. Draw a sloping line from the shoulder to the torso for a seam. Keep the width of the sleeve consistently wide, even at the bottom where the wrist narrows. Add a line near the bottom of the sleeve for the cuff.
Step 7: Use the manga boy's arm on the right as a guide to draw the coat's other sleeve the same way. Follow the edge of the arm to draw the shape of the sleeve. Make the shoulder area a bit wider for the pad and add a sloping line inside for a seam. Keep the sleeve wide even at the wrist. Near the bottom, draw a line for the cuff.
Step 8: Follow the path of the boy's leg on the left to draw the first pant leg. Keep the line for the pants close to the side of the leg so that the pants aren't too baggy. You can draw the width of the pant leg closer to the ankle at the bottom if you want skinnier pants. Make the shape a bit more angular near the middle for the folds along the knee.
Step 9: Use the manga boy's leg on the right as a guide to draw the pants' other leg the same way. Follow the edge of the leg to draw the shape of the pant leg. Keep both sides equally wide. If you made the left side narrow at the bottom, make this side narrow at the bottom too.
Step 10: On the bottom, left side, draw a curved shape around the foot for the boy's shoe. Follow the shape of the foot as you draw the shoe but make the edges of the shoe a bit farther away from the foot. At the top of the shoe, draw a couple of short, curved lines for the design and laces. At the bottom, draw a couple of extra curved lines for the shoe's sole.
Step 11: Draw the shoe on the boy's other foot the same way. Follow the path of the foot as you draw the shape of the shoe around it. At the top, add a few short lines for the design and laces and at the bottom a couple more curved lines for the sole.
Step 12: Add a few extra details throughout the boy's uniform. Draw two small circles along the middle edge of the coat for buttons. On the outer edges each of the coat's cuffs, draw two more small circles for more buttons. Add a line below each sleeve for a bit of the shirt's cuff. Inside the pants, draw a series of lines of different sizes for pleats and folds on the fabric.
Step 13: Using a pen or marker, go over the final lines to make your manga boy in a school uniform drawing permanent. Ink slowly and carefully to avoid accidents. Don't ink the sections of the body that are behind the clothes. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your manga boy drawing! This drawing was colored digitally but you can achieve the same result using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Using light brown, color a few streaks across the middle area of the hair for highlights. Use regular brown for the rest of the hair but don't overlap the highlights. Use dark brown along the top and bottom of the hair. Color lightly at first and slowly blend the colors together. For an easier drawing, just color the entire hair a single brown color with no highlights. You can also use any other color you want. Manga characters are always colorful so use, green, yellow, purple or any other color you want for the hair. Use blue for the eyes. Use peach for the skin. Use a bit of light brown throughout the skin for some shadows.
Color the coat dark blue or navy blue. Use yellow for the buttons on the coat. Use red and orange to color the tie for a stripy pattern. Add a bit of light gray to the white shirt for shadows. Color the pants gray and the shoes brown. You can also color the uniform differently if you'd like. Use dark red or dark green for the coat and any other color for the pants!
That's it! Keep practicing until you get the body and proportions right. Draw it again and again and eventually you'll get better!
